Major Decision by Pakistan Hockey Federation: Nationwide Open Trials Announced for Senior and Junior Teams
ISLAMABAD / KARACHI (Sports Desk): In a significant move to restore the lost glory of hockey in Pakistan and bring new talent to the forefront, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has decided to conduct open trials for the selection of the Senior and Junior National Hockey teams. The primary objective of these trials is to select players strictly on a merit basis, ensuring a strong and balanced team is formed to represent Pakistan in upcoming international competitions.
Schedule for Senior Team Trials
The trials for the National Senior Hockey Team will be conducted in phases across various cities. According to the schedule, the first phase will be held in Karachi on April 13, followed by skill evaluations in Lahore on April 15. The final leg of the trials will take place in Peshawar on April 23, where talented players from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will showcase their skills. Authorities have clarified that the 28 current members of the national team will be exempt from these open trials; however, all other aspiring players will be provided with a full opportunity to participate.
Junior Team and Future Preparations
To scout the stars of the future, open trials for the Junior Team will be held in the federal capital, Islamabad, on April 20 and 21. Through these trials, young players will be integrated into the national stream to nurture hockey talent at the grassroots level.
