A major life-threatening disaster was narrowly averted near Farooqabad when a bogey of the Lahor bound Shalimar Express derailed. The incident occurred at the Jhamke location.
​According to details, the railway track from Farooqabad to Lahore has become extremely dilapidated. Due to the lack of maintenance and poor condition of the tracks, a bogey of the Shalimar Express, traveling from Faisalabad to Lahore, slipped off the rails.The gatekeeper at the nearby crossing immediately noticed the derailed bogey and alerted the train driver to stop the train at once. Acting swiftly on the information, the driver applied emergency brakes, preventing a potentially fatal accident.
​Currently, the Shalimar Express remains halted near Machike village. As a result of the incident, all train operations between Lahore and Faisalabad have been suspended.
