DC Gujranwala: Swift Justice Possible Through Mediation at District Consumer Protection Council

Deputy Commissioner Gujranwala/Wazirabad, Naveed Ahmed, has stated that the resolution of cases in the District Consumer Protection Council through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is an excellent means of providing swift justice to citizens. He appreciated and commended the positive and cooperative role played by the lawyers of the District Bar Association Gujranwala in this process.
He expressed these views during the hearing of the case “Basit Babar versus Ikram Sons Aluminum and Works.” On this occasion, a reconciliation was reached between both parties through the mediation of lawyers with mutual consent. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that such cooperation from lawyers not only saves the time and financial resources of consumers but also reduces the burden on the judicial system.
During the proceedings, the Deputy Commissioner clarified that in accordance with the Chief Minister of Punjab’s consumer-friendly vision, and following the instructions of Secretary Consumer Protection Dr. Kiran Khurshid and DG Enforcement Imran Qureshi, the district administration is fully mobilized to protect the rights of consumers.
Assistant Director Legal, Chaudhry Muhammad Farooq, provided details, stating that the complainant, Basit Babar, had lodged a complaint against Ikram Sons for leaving work incomplete. During the hearing, the shopkeeper gave an assurance to complete the work within 15 days, after which an agreement was reached. Under the terms of the agreement, 93,000 rupees will be deposited with the Council, and in case the work is not completed, strict legal action and a heavy fine will be imposed.
The AD Legal further added that this mutual cooperation between the Bar and the administration holds a key position in the immediate disposal of pending cases. The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the citizens to download the “ADP Consumer Protect App” so that they can benefit from the facility of online complaint registration and swift justice from the comfort of their homes.
