Matters of mutual interest, regional security and bilateral cooperation discussed.
The Ambassador of the European Union (EU) Dr Riina Kionka called upon Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Tuesday and discussed enhancing bilateral relations, said a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
During her visit to the General Headquarters (GHQ), they discussed matters of mutual interest, regional security situation and bilateral cooperation with the EU.
The army chief said Pakistan values its relations with EU countries and “we earnestly look forward to enhance mutually beneficial multi-domain relations based on common interests”.
The COAS also congratulated the EU envoy for assuming her new appointment. Both hoped to further enhance bilateral engagement based on common interests, added ISPR.

Dr Kionka expressed grief over the devastation caused by floods in Pakistan and offered condolence to the families of the victims. According to the ISPR, she offered “full support” to the people of Pakistan.
She also appreciated the Pakistan Army’s efforts to assist the civil administration in rescue and relief efforts in flood-affected areas and pledged to play her role in enhancing relations between Pakistan and the EU.
The COAS expressed his gratitude for the EU’s support and reiterated that assistance from global partners is vital for the rescue and rehabilitation of the flood victims.
