Jennifer Lopez is actively searching for a new hit song following her split from Ben Affleck.
“They have reached out to songwriters,” says the source to Page Six. “She wants a big dance hit.”
The insider added, “Her career priority is music. There’s no point in her pursuing it unless it’s major, and critics need to feel like it’s the classic Lopez. She needs a big banger.”
At 55, Lopez isn’t just aiming for one song; she’s looking to create a full album, according to the source.
“She wants to produce hits and release a new album,” the Page Six insider shared.
Lopez’s latest album, This Is Me… Now, which was inspired by her relationship with Affleck, dropped in February but didn’t make it into the top 20, debuting at number 38 on the Billboard Top 200.
Before the album’s release, Lopez hinted at stepping away from music.
“The truth is I don’t even know if I’ll ever make another album after this,” she said. “Don’t tell Benny [Medina, her longtime manager] that that’s what I’m thinking — this might be my last album ever.”
According to the source, “She has had an enormous amount of hits and can’t accept the last album is the end of her music career. She wants to wash away the stink of This Is Me Now.”
The album received mixed critical reception. Slate commented, “most of the album falls short,” while Pitchfork wrote, “the narrative threatens to, and does, overtake the music.”
An experimental Amazon documentary, inspired by her relationship with Affleck, accompanied the album’s release.
The tour for the album reportedly underperformed in sales, and amid her breakup with Affleck, Lopez canceled the tour, stating she was “taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends.”
