MURREE: Under the direction of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Murree, Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi, has launched an unwavering crackdown against the entrenched land mafia that has long plagued the region. This mafia, comprised of influential individuals posing as legitimate businessmen, has exploited Murree’s resources for personal gain, tarnishing the area’s natural beauty and disrupting the lives of local residents.

For years, these influential groups have manipulated the system, blackmailed district administrations, and engaged in illegal encroachments that have marred the scenic landscape parallel to the Murree Expressway. Previous administrations were often unable to confront these powerful entities; however, DC Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi’s courageous leadership has marked a turning point. His commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice has been demonstrated through strategic operations aimed at dismantling illegal networks and reclaiming encroached land.

Notably, DC Shirazi has halted attempts by these groups to seize land belonging to OGDC Town in Moza Karlot, showcasing his resolve to protect public and state interests. In April 2024, the district administration under his supervision initiated an aggressive operation targeting unlawful constructions along Bank Road, leading to the demolition of several illegal buildings.

Relentless Operation Along Murree Expressway

Currently, the focus has shifted to clearing illegal constructions along the Murree Expressway. DC Shirazi, supported by teams from the Murree Municipal Corporation, Civil Defense, and other relevant departments, has spearheaded operations that aim to restore the expressway’s integrity and beauty. His efforts are bolstered by the unwavering support of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who has made it clear that no illegal activity will be tolerated in Murree.

Speaking on the operation, DC Shirazi emphasized, “We are committed to restoring the natural landscape of Murree and protecting its residents from unlawful practices. This operation will continue until all illegal structures are removed and the rule of law is firmly re-established.”

The Deputy Commissioner reiterated that no individual, regardless of their status or influence, will be allowed to hinder this process. “Strict action will be taken without discrimination against anyone found violating the rules,” he added.

Support from the Community

DC Shirazi’s actions have been met with widespread support from the local community, who see his efforts as a long-overdue step toward reclaiming their beloved city. Residents have expressed their relief at the district administration’s proactive measures, which they hope will bring lasting peace and prosperity to Murree.

The ongoing operation is a testament to the Punjab government’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and upholding the law. With DC Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi at the forefront, Murree stands resilient against illegal encroachments, setting an example of bravery and integrity in governance.
