DSP among 3 martyred in late-night terrorist attack in K-P


PESHAWAR: Three police personnel, including a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), were martyred in a late-night terrorist attack on the Sarband Police Station in Peshawar, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), it was reported on Saturday.

Inspector General (IG) of the K-P police Moazzam Jah Ansari while talking to the media today, said that the police “bravely repulsed the terrorist attack”.

The three martyred policemen included K-P Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sardar Hussain and his two police guards identified as Irshad and Jehanzeb.

 

According to Ansari, the DSP parked the vehicle at the checkpoint and was entering from the back gate when he became the target of terrorists.

He informed the media that for the first time terrorists used sniper weapons in Peshawar, while these “are being used in Bannu, Lakki Marwat and DI Khan”.

The IG, however, added that the provincial government has approved the purchase of thermal sites and night weather drone technology for the police.

He furthered that phase one of the Peshawar Safe City Project will start before June. “Cameras have been installed in all the police stations of the city,” he said.

KP CM condemns attack

Provincial Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has condemned the terrorist attack on the Sarband Police Station and termed it a tragic incident.

In a statement, CM Mahmood said that “the sacrifice of the martyrs will not go in vain”, adding that the police fought with bravery and repulsed the attack.

 

Further, he said that the whole nation is standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the police in the war against terrorism.

He prayed for the eternal peace of the martyrs and expressed his heartiest sympathies and condolence with the bereaved families.

Mahmood has also asked the IG Police for a report on the incident.
