Election Commission of Pakistan Prepares for General Elections


ISLAMABAD: With the general elections approaching, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has unveiled its comprehensive polling plan for the upcoming polls scheduled on February 8.

The ECP has set up 90,675 polling stations across the country. This includes 522 in temporary structures. There will be 25,320 stations for male voters, 23,950 for female voters, and 41,405 joint stations.

In Punjab, there are 50,944 stations, including 35 in non-permanent buildings, divided as 14,556 for men, 14,036 for women, and 22,352 as joint stations. Sindh will have 14,556 stations, with 344 in temporary structures. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa follows with 15,697 stations, including 73 in temporary setups. Balochistan has set up 5,028 stations, with 70 in non-permanent structures.

Nationwide, there are 276,402 polling booths, with 147,560 for male voters and 127,842 for female voters. Punjab has the most booths at 149,434, followed by Sindh with 65,005, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 47,081, and Balochistan with 14,882.

The ECP has introduced a WhatsApp helpline to assist over 128 million voters and manage poll-related issues, especially aiding those with speech and hearing impairments. The helpline number is 0327 5050610, and it’s part of the Election Monitoring and Complaint Centre (EMCC).

Besides WhatsApp, complaints can be submitted via email at complaints@ecp.gov.pk or through a helpline at 111-327-000. Control rooms are established at various administrative levels to manage and resolve complaints efficiently. The ECP is also monitoring social media and electronic media to address concerns and violations related to the electoral process.
