Inflation Hit: Government Hikes Petrol and Diesel Prices Effective March 1st

The Government of Pakistan has announced a significant increase in the prices of petroleum products, citing fluctuations in the international oil market. According to the official notification from the Finance Ministry, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs. 8 per litre, while High-Speed Diesel (HSD) has seen a hike of Rs. 5.16 per litre.
The new prices came into effect on March 1, 2026, bringing the new petrol price to Rs. 266.17 per litre. This move is expected to trigger a rise in transportation costs and further escalate the prices of essential commodities. Public circles have expressed deep concern over the decision, calling it an additional burden on the inflation-stricken population.
