KARACHI: Tension gripped the metropolitan city on Sunday as violent clashes broke out between protesters and law enforcement agencies near the US Consulate on M.T. Khan Road. The demonstration was organized to protest against recent global geopolitical shifts and regional conflicts.
The situation escalated when hundreds of demonstrators attempted to breach the high-security zone by crossing the police barricades. In response, police utilized tear gas shells and baton charges to disperse the crowd. According to eyewitnesses, several individuals, including police personnel, sustained injuries during the stone-pelting and subsequent chaos.
The district administration has completely sealed off all arterial roads leading to the Consulate using shipping containers. Additional contingents of Sindh Rangers and police have been deployed to maintain law and order. Authorities have advised citizens to seek alternative routes as the area remains cordoned off for security reasons.
