ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) made a major announcement on Tuesday: they have discovered oil and gas resources in the Sanghar district of Sindh, Pakistan. This is the second such discovery by OGDCL in a span of three days, following their first successful exploration at Chak-5 Dim South-3.
This new discovery could prove to be an economic boon for both Pakistan and OGDCL as well as the city of Sanghar. The announcement comes at an opportune time for OGDCL, as their exploration efforts are currently under scrutiny. Now, with two discoveries in three days, it appears that the company’s exploratory efforts have been paying off.
For the citizens of Sanghar district, this discovery brings with it hopes of more jobs, improved infrastructure, and better education opportunities.
In a statement released on Thursday, the company said, “The joint venture at the Singhoro Block, comprising of OGDCL as operator (76%), Orient Petroleum (19%) and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) (5%), discovered oil and gas hydrocarbons from the Kot Nawab-1 exploratory well, located in District Sanghar.”
Kot Nawab-1 was spudded-in on June 3, 2022, as an exploratory well and was drilled down to 3000 metres.“Based on the results of wireline logs interpretation, the Drill Stem Test-1 in the Basal Sand has tested 125 barrel of oil per day (BoPD) and 0.483 million Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMSCFD) gas through choke size 28/64” at WellHead Flowing Pressure (WHFP) of 150 Pounds per Square Inch (PSI),” read a statement from OGDCL. “This is the 11th discovery in the Sinjhoro Block,” said the OGDCL spokesperson.
