ISLAMABAD, March 27 : PEMRA bans live and recorded coverage of public gatherings and rallies in Islamabad.
Ban imposed ahead of PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s appearance in Islamabad court.
License to be cancelled over violation of rule.
The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Monday restricted all TV channels from live and recorded coverage of rallies, and public gatherings inIslamabad.
The order came forward, ahead of former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s court appearance in the federal capital۔
PEMRA issued a notification in this regard, stating that coverage of public gatherings and rallies has been banned in the capital city on March 27th.
Notification added that the license of the TV channel will be suspended over rules violation.
PEMRA said “license shall be suspended under Section 30 (3) of PEMRA Ordinance 2002 as amended by PEMRA (Amendment) Act 2007, without any show cause notice in the public interest along with other enabling provisions of law.”
Notably, a similar ban on live coverage of rallies had been imposed on March 18th.
According to the notification, the “Competent Authority” imposed the ban while “exercising powers vested under Section 27(a) of the PEMRA Ordinance 2002 as amended by PEMRA (Amendment) Act 2007.”
