ISLAMABAD, April 12 : According to the Secretary General of the Hilal Research Council, Khalid Ejaz Mufti, the moon sighting for Eid-ul-Fitr will not be possible on Thursday, April 20. Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on April 22, 2023, after the completion of thirty days of fasting. According to Mufti, the new moon will be born at 9:13 am Pakistan Standard Time on Thursday, April 20.
On the 29th of Ramadan, which will be observed on the evening of April 21, the age of the moon for sighting should be more than 19 hours. It should be less than 10 hours in all regions of Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Kuwaiti astronomer and historian Adel Al-Saadoun said that even in the current year of 1444 AH, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on different days in Muslim countries, depending on the sighting of the Shawwal moon. However, Ramadan will end on April 21, and Eid will be celebrated on April 22.
Regarding the conditions for sighting the moon, they explained that on April 20, 2023, the moon will be conjoined with the sun, and at the same time, it will be eclipsed, which will not be visible in the Arab region.
The conjunction and eclipse of the moon will occur at 7:12 am, and the sunset will be at 6:06 pm. The moon will set at 6:42 pm. At that time, the age of the moon will be 11 hours and 6 minutes.
They mentioned that the conditions for seeing the crescent will not be met, so the crescent of Eid-ul-Fitr will not be visible on the 29th of Ramadan in most Muslim countries, including Mauritania, neither with the naked eye nor with the camera. Therefore, this year, Eid will be celebrated on April 22 in most Muslim countries.
