YouTuber and paragliding enthusiast Anthony Vella has sustained serious injuries while filming a video.
In a video titled “Paramoter Crash ALMOST Ended My Life,” uploaded on April 27, Vella addressed his 23K subscribers from a hospital bed, discussing the incident.
He is currently undergoing treatment for a fractured neck, broken back, and other injuries.
Vella was filming with a paramotor called BDG Luna 3, which is a paraglider equipped with a motor for increased speed.
He explained he had been testing the BGD Luna 3 at Enchanted Rock State Park, and the crash occurred when he was going at a speed of 50 mph.
The YouTuber lost control of the aircraft at a height of 80-100 feet above ground level , leading to the crash landing.
Despite the potential fatal outcome of such a fall, Vella was lucky to survive and took full responsibility for the accident, attributing it to his own negligence: “the BGD Luna 3 is not responsible for this crash. Upon taking off, there was a small tension knot that I hadn’t seen, in spite of me checking the glider.”
As described on his channel, Vella is a US Army veteran who served in Afghanistan. He is currently a pilot and uses his platform to promote aviation.
Vella expressed gratitude to his subscribers for their support and, despite his neck and back injuries, assured them that he plans to return to creating content in the future.
