A New Chapter Begins: PFUJ dissolves Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists Workers under President Pervaiz Shaukat’s guidance


ISLAMABAD 08-09-2023- The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists Workers (PFUJ) has taken a pivotal decision by dissolving the current governing body of the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists Workers. This resolution was finalized during a meeting under the chairmanship of Central President, Mr. Pervaiz Shaukat.

During this crucial meeting, a four-member committee was established under the leadership of Central President Pervaiz Shaukat. The committee’s primary mandate is to nominate new office bearers for the RIUJ Workers. Esteemed committee members include Tahir Rathore, Dr. Saadia Kamal, and Mian Samee. Moreover, the committee has chosen senior journalist Abdul Razzaq Chishti to serve as the Central Secretary of Information for the PFUJ Workers.

 

The meeting was graced by the presence of senior journalists and members, including Tahir Rathore, Dr. Saadia Kamal, Mian Samee, Abdul Razzaq Chishti, Syed Bilal Izzat, Shahrukh Shafiq, Syed Zahir Abbas, Muneeb Bukhari, Raja Adil, Adil Raza, Anwar Zaidi, Sohail Siddiq, and Abid Zia.

Discussions during the meeting revolved around organizational matters, ensuring freedom of expression, and addressing challenges faced by journalists and media workers. The assembly voiced their concerns, urging the government to recognize and address the extensive layoffs and the ongoing issue of unpaid salaries in the journalism sector. They further recommended that government advertising should be exclusive to newspapers adhering to the wage board’s stipulated salary framework.

 

Another significant demand presented was for the government to expedite the issuance of health insurance cards to journalists and media workers. The session further accentuated the need to remove existing limitations on journalists’ plot quotas, ensuring their swift allocation. Furthermore, the meeting emphasized that allotment letters for the F-15 sectors should be dispatched without delay.
