Fuelling Pakistan’s Future: OGDCL’s landmark discovery in Rahim Yar Khan


 

ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), leading the forefront of energy innovations in Pakistan, has proudly announced a significant gas discovery at the Chak 214-1 exploratory well, nestled in the Rahim Yar Khan district of Punjab.

This landmark discovery, emblematic of OGDCL’s unwavering commitment to pushing boundaries, came to fruition on June 29, 2023. A culmination of OGDCL’s state-of-the-art in-house expertise ensured the well reached an impressive depth of 1,851 meters.

Preliminary analyses from wireline logs highlighted the Drill Stem Test-1 in Dunghan Formation, showcasing a robust gas flow rate of 1.1 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) at a wellhead flowing pressure (WHFP) of 230 PSI. Moreover, the Drill Stem Test-2 in Sui Main Limestone further emphasized the well’s potential, recording a gas flow rate of 1.31 mmscfd at WHFP of 260 PSI.
