Gujranwala (Special Correspondent): A special seminar was organized by the Punjab College University Campus to mark “World Hepatitis Day,” aimed at raising awareness among students regarding the prevention of liver diseases. Prominent gastroenterologists and hepatologists, Dr. Asad Imtiaz and Dr. Naveed Aslam, were the special guests at the event.
Addressing the students, the experts noted that today’s younger generation is increasingly susceptible to various “silent” diseases due to the excessive consumption of fast food and prolonged exposure to digital screens (mobiles, laptops). Chronic fatigue and body aches, commonly found in many students, are primarily caused by poor nutrition and an unhealthy lifestyle. The doctors clarified that while Hepatitis is a treatable condition, failure to diagnose it in time and ignoring precautionary measures can lead to life-threatening illnesses such as cancer.
The panel advised students to adopt a balanced diet, avoid the use of used syringes and non-sterilized medical equipment, and undergo regular medical check-ups. The doctors emphasized the importance of fostering a spirit of serving humanity among students so that they can educate those around them about the prevention of this disease.
Dean of the University Campus, Shahid Saleem Khawaja, also addressed the participants and expressed his gratitude to the guest speakers. The event was attended by the Head of BS Programs, Shamim Akhtar, as well as a large number of faculty members and students. A question-and-answer session was held at the end of the seminar, where the experts provided detailed responses to the students’ queries. The efforts of Director of Administration for Punjab Colleges, Muhammad Shahzad Rafiq, in organizing the event were highly appreciated, and the guest doctors were presented with shields and souvenirs by the college.
