Maryam Nawaz returns to Pakistan

LAHORE, April 27 : Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz has returned to Pakistan after performing Umrah along with her father—former prime minister Nawaz Sharif—who on Wednesday returned to London.

Maryam Nawaz who is the PML-N’s senior vice president and chief organizer—left for Saudi Arabia on April 11. Nawaz Sharif arrived in Saudi Arabia on April 12 from the United Kingdom’s capital.

According to Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb, Nawaz and Maryam also met the Saudi prime minister, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during the visit.

The two sides discussed further improving Saudi-Pak brotherly relations and ways to resolve issues confronting Pakistan. Maryam Nawaz landed in Lahore in the early hours of Thursday.

Nawaz Sharif, convicted for corruption in Pakistan in December 2018, has been living in London since November 2019 after he was given the rare permission to leave the country for medical treatment on assurance that he would return to Pakistan as soon as he received the required treatment.

Despite having his brother’s government in Pakistan for over a year now, Nawaz refuses to return home. His party demands a level playing field, which they say means giving Nawaz Sharif blanket immunity in all his cases to allow him to take part in the election process on his return.
