ISLAMABAD, May 25: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) was apprised by the additional attorney general that PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi was arrested on the orders of Rawalpindi deputy commissioner under 3MPO and was imprisoned in Adiala Jail.
IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq heard the plea regarding the former foreign minister’s re-arrest and provision of cases registered against him.
The court referred the case to the relevant forum and disposed of the plea.
During the proceedings, the court issued a notice to the Ministry of Interior on the arrest of Qureshi asking it to tell in which case the PTI leader had been arrested.
Earlier during the hearing, the Islamabad police expressed ignorance regarding the arrest of Qureshi, saying that there were two cases regarding the May 9 riots registered against the PTI leader in Islamabad while there were also six old cases against him.
However, the police said, “it is not known where and in which case Shah Mehmood Qureshi has been arrested”.
The court asked the interior ministry to inform it in which case Qureshi was arrested.
During the hearing, Qureshi’s lawyer Barrister Taimur Malik while Assistant Attorney General Azmat Bashir Tarar appeared in court. The hearing was adjourned for a while.
After the hearing resumed, AAG Munawar Iqbal Duggal apprised the court that Qureshi was arrested on the orders of the Rawalpindi deputy commissioner under 3MPO and he was imprisoned in Adiala Jail.
The court directed to refer the case to the relevant forum and disposed of the request.
Separately, the IHC was informed by the Islamabad police that seven cases had been registered against former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser at different police stations.
The last case was registered on March 18, 2023.
The court called for a complete report by Thursday (today).
Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir heard the request for provision of the record of cases registered against the former NA speaker.
Advocate Babar Awan appeared in court on behalf of the petitioner, saying that it was not yet known how many cases were registered against his client.
“The court is requested to issue orders to the police to provide the records.”
The police presented the record of seven cases filed against Qaiser in court. According to the details, two cases are registered against Qaiser at Kohsar, Abpara, Industrial Area, Sangjani and Golra Sharif police stations while one case was registered at CTD.
The court adjourned the hearing the authorities concerned to submit a complete report regarding other cases by Thursday (today).
