Ban on Imports to Cost Millions of Jobs in Pakistan, PBF

By Syed Bilal Izzat Naqvi…

The Pakistan Business Forum (PBF) has warned that a ban on imports into the country could cost millions of jobs and cause economic damage. Ahmed Jawad, Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of the PBF, expressed his concern about the government’s plan to restrict imports, stating that “such a move will have devastating consequences for both workers and businesses across the country.”

Ahmed believes that any ban on imports would have an immediate impact on employment levels in Pakistan due to loss of jobs within the import industry and its related sectors. He also believes it would be detrimental to small businesses as they would not be able to access goods at competitive prices. He said: “There are already millions of unemployed people in Pakistan and this move could cause further damage to our already fragile economy.
