Deputy Commissioner Navid Ahmad Conducts Early Morning Citywide Inspection to Assess Sanitation, Drainage, and Public Facilities GUJRANWALA: Deputy Commissioner Gujranwala and Chairman of the Gujranwala Waste Management Company (GWMC), Navid Ahmad, conducted an extensive early morning visit to various areas of the city to review sanitation, drainage, public safety, anti-encroachment measures, and public recreational facilities. Issuing on-the-spot directives to the officers of the relevant departments, he made it clear that providing a clean, safe, and conducive environment to the citizens is the top priority of the district administration. Sanitation and Drainage Inspection in Gorjakh During his visit to various streets and neighborhoods of the Gorjakh area, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the sanitation and drainage arrangements. He issued immediate orders to construct a boundary wall around the temporary waste collection point to improve the local environment and facilitate the residents. On this occasion, the CEO of GWMC and the Assistant Commissioner (Saddar/City) were directed to further upgrade the standard of cleanliness, while field monitoring officers were instructed to inspect their respective areas on a daily basis. He warned that wherever the sanitation system is found unsatisfactory, immediate legal action will be initiated against the concerned contractor under the “Suthra Punjab” (Clean Punjab) program, as no negligence in providing a clean environment to the citizens will be tolerated. Safety Measures and Public Appeal regarding Open Manholes Later, the Deputy Commissioner took strict notice of the missing safety slabs over the drain near the Railway Station on GT Road and directed WASA authorities to install protective slabs there immediately. He appealed to the citizens that if they notice open manholes, unsafe gutter covers, or missing safety slabs anywhere that pose a threat to human lives, they should immediately report it to the district administration’s helpline at 055-9200070 so that timely action can be taken to prevent any untoward incidents. Anti-Encroachment Drive in Downtown Bazaars Deputy Commissioner Navid Ahmad also visited various inner-city bazaars to review the ongoing anti-encroachment campaign. Meeting with shopkeepers, he urged them to keep their commercial activities strictly within the limits of their shops and completely avoid encroaching on public spaces. He emphasized that encroachment-free and spacious markets provide a better business environment not only for shoppers but also for the traders themselves. Review of Recreational Facilities at Gorjakh Community Park In the final leg of his visit, the Deputy Commissioner visited the Gorjakh Community Park to inspect its cleanliness, grass trimming, and plantation status. He directed the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) officials to ensure that all swings and play areas installed for children’s recreation are kept fully functional, well-maintained, and safe. Interacting with the citizens present at the park, he appealed to them to cooperate with the staff in maintaining cleanliness and protecting public recreational spaces. Commitment to the Chief Minister’s Vision Deputy Commissioner Navid Ahmad reiterated the district administration’s resolve to utilize all available resources to provide cleanliness, civic amenities, safe infrastructure, and quality recreational facilities in line with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryum Nawaz Sharif. He added that he is personally monitoring the performance of all departments on a daily basis.
