‘Robbers’ kill trader for not stopping


KARACHI: Unidentified suspects killed another citizen in the city of Quaid and injured three others, while people lynched a robber and left another in coma after severe beating.

In the year 2022, most of the incidents of killing of citizens during robberies have occurred in December, which saw at least 12 citizens and two policemen martyred by robbers.

According to police, unidentified armed robbers shot dead Tahir Ayub, 35, a resident of Saadi Town in Janjaal Goth near the Afghan refugee camp within the limits of Gulshan-e-Maymar police station on Sunday morning.

SHO Gulshan Maymar police station SHO Amin Qureshi said that Tahir came to Janjaal Goth after Fajr prayer in his car to open his auto parts shop.

Tahir was near his shop when three suspects tried to stop his car, however, he sped away. Te suspects opened fire on the car and chased it.

The victim after driving a distance stopped, thinking he was safe, however, the suspects were following him and came up close and fired more shots, killing him on the spot.

SHO Qureshi said they have collected evidence from the crime scene and opened investigations.

Meanwhile, a citizen, Amir Salim, 22, was injured when suspected robbers opened fire on him, while one of the assailants was also killed in the incident at Gulistan-e-Johar near Johar Rabia City.

Police said they are waiting for the CCTV footage from the bank branch to ascertain who fired the shots that killed alleged robber, Zubair, who was also armed with a pistol. Zubair’ other two accomplices escaped. Salim identified Zubair’s body at Jinnah Hospital.

In another incident, people caught two robbers as they were fleeing after robbing a scrap dealer in Orangi Town within the limits of Iqbal Market Police Statio.

Enraged people started torturing the suspects killing one on the spot, while another was unconscious by the time police reached the spot.

The angry citizens also set fire to the motorcycle used by the robbers. Police shifted the body and the injured to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The suspects have yet to be identified.

Meanwhile, bandits shot and injured a man and his nephew near Moach Goth Bridge in Baldia Town. Edhi volunteers took them to Civil Hospital for immediate medical assistance, where they were identified as 45-year-old Farid Ahmed and 18-year-old Farhan.

Farid’s brother Shabir Ahmed told The Express Tribune that the victims tried to incident took place during resisting the robbery, while both of them were shot in the stomach and they were immediately shifted to the operation theater.
